Easter is one of my favorite days of the years. I love the meaning of the day but I also love the family traditions of family dinner, egg hunts, candy and crafts! I’ve had all kinds of Easter baskets over the years, as well as my kids. I wanted to make an Easter basket out of felt and I love how it turned out!

Skill Level: Beginner + Basic Sewing Machine Skills
Completion Time: 1-2 hour (including drying time)

Materials:

12” x 18” Craft Cut of Kunin Premium Felt: (2) Violet Sky, (1) Candy Pink
9” x 12” Craft Cut of Kunin Premium Felt: (1) Pirate Green, (1) Yellow, (1) Lagoon
Sewing Machine
Thread
Beacon Felt Glue
Cutting Mat
Rotary Cutting Blade
Scissors
Pins
Iron (on the acrylic setting)

How I made it:

Using the cutting mat and rotary cutting blade, cut the pieces as follows:
– (3) 6” x 12” and (2) 6” x 6” pieces of Violet Sky.
– (1) 2.5” x 12” rectangle for the grass from the Pirate Green. Cut tall thin triangles on one edge creating a grass look.
– An egg from each of the Yellow, Lagoon and Candy Pink TIP: The eggs are cut freehand.
– (2) 2” x 18” strips for the handle.
– Decorative pieces for the eggs. I made zig zags, curvy lines and straight lines.

Glue the grass in place on the bottom of one of the 6” x 12” pieces of Violet Sky.

Glue the decorative pieces to the eggs.

Place the eggs where you’d like them and glue them into place.

Set aside and allow the glue to dry completely.

Pin the two Candy Pink strips together and sew up both sides creating a thick handle. TIP: I sewed everything at ¼”.

Using pins, pin the two 6” x 6” pieces to the ends of one of the extra 6” x 12” pieces. Sew them in place using the sewing machine.

Pin the last 6” x 12” piece to the bottom of the sewn piece, creating a bottom for the basket. Sew it in place.

Pin the handle piece to the outside of the two 6” x 6” pieces, making sure you are sewing it to the top and not the side where your decorated piece is going to go. Sew them in place.

Once the glue is dry on the front piece, pin it inside out to the basket. Sew that in place.

Flip the basket right side out pushing all of the corners out.

Using my iron set to the acrylic setting so that it wouldn’t get too hot, I pressed the sewn edges so that the basket would sit flat and straight.
